On Saturday, June 22, we will have shortened hours due to the Indianapolis Monumental Mile. The Indiana War Memorial will be open from 1-5 p.m., and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument will be open from 1-5:30 p.m. All roads around our facilities should be open by noon. However, parking will be available on Michigan Street that morning.

Celebrate your event in our historic district

Weddings, fundraisers, conferences, festivals, parades, exhibits and movie showings have all been held in facilities, parks and plazas that are part of the Indiana War Memorial Plaza Historic District.

From the 1930s era lobby in the Indiana War Memorial to the lush green spaces along American Legion Mall, we offer venues that promise to make your event memorable. The spaces vary in size and scope, but all make for a unique place to congregate, celebrate and mark a special occasion.

Veterans Memorial Plaza

Veterans Memorial Plaza was completed in 1930 and covers one entire square block, measuring approximately 430 feet from sidewalk to sidewalk on all sides.

  • Located north side of the Indiana War Memorial
  • 100-foot black granite obelisk and fountain
  • State flags flank and east and west sides
  • Abundance of green space
  • Event maximum capacity: 3,000 people

University Park

University Park was completed in 1876 and lies to the south side of the Indiana War Memorial, covering one entire square block that measures approximately 430 feet from sidewalk to sidewalk on all sides.

  • Depew Memorial Fountain and several statues of prominent Hoosiers
  • Abundance of green space plus paved area surrounding the fountain
  • Event maximum capacity: 3,000 people

Soldiers and Sailors Monument

From street level to the top of Victory, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument measures 284 feet 6 inches tall, and the observation deck offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

  • North and south steps, as well as landings, available for events
  • Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis
  • Event maximum capacity: 1,000 people (without street closures)

American Legion Mall

American Legion Mall—built as part of the original construction of Indiana War Memorial Plaza in 1924—spans two square blocks, measuring approximately 430 feet by 835 feet from sidewalk to sidewalk.

  • Located north of Veterans Memorial Plaza
  • Gradually sloped grassy area with flat stage-like structure on north side
  • Memorials for World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War
  • Event maximum capacity: 30,000+ people

Indiana War Memorial – Promenade

Completed in 1933, the Indiana War Memorial covers one entire square block, measuring approximately 430 feet from sidewalk to sidewalk on all sides.

  • Two outdoor levels
    • Front promenade generally reserved for military events
    • Second level promenade provides 360-degree view of city
  • Event maximum capacity: 1,000 people

Indiana War Memorial – Shrine Room

The Shrine Room is the crown jewel of the Indiana War Memorial. The flag and Star of Destiny hang over the altar of consecration, which is not a tomb, but a commemoration of the sacrifices made during World War I.

  • Generally reserved for military-related events
  • Food and drink prohibited
  • Accessible via two large staircases off Grand Lobby or via elevator for those with limited mobility

Indiana War Memorial – Grand Lobby

The Grand Lobby is a favorite venue for larger seated receptions and functions. Measuring 23’ x 117’, the Grand Lobby connects to Spruance Hall, Shoup Hall, Pershing Auditorium and the West Hallway.

  • Perfect for after-hours receptions or cocktail parties
  • Ideal for vendor setup, buffet and seating area, or for high-top tables
  • Marble floors and dark green marble pillars
  • Event maximum capacity: 180 people

Indiana War Memorial – Pershing Auditorium

Pershing Auditorium is acoustically perfect and features Guastavino acoustical tile, a domed ceiling and all original or period-accurate décor.

  • 26’ x 14’ stage
  • Complete A/V system with 15’ drop screen, HD projector, laptop connection and audio system
  • Handicapped accessibility at the back on both sides
  • Event maximum capacity: 500 people

Indiana War Memorial – Woodfill Boardroom

The Woodfill Boardroom is located within the Indiana War Memorial administrative offices.

  • Small meeting space or “green room” for events
  • 14-seat conference table, with additional 16 chairs around room
  • Optional pop-up screen and portable projector

Indiana War Memorial – West Foyer

The West Foyer is included with any interior venue rental of the Indiana War Memorial. Measuring 20’ x 33’, the West Foyer is a nice add-on, particularly when using Shoup Hall as both spaces flow directly into each other through one doorway.

  • Ideal for photo booths, catering stations or additional seating
  • White marble floors, walls and pillars
  • Placards and engravings detail history of the Indiana War Memorial

Indiana War Memorial – Spruance Hall

Spruance Hall is the second of two mirror image meeting spaces. Measuring 24’ x 55’, Spruance Hall is perfect for smaller receptions, meetings, reunions, parties, and exhibits.

  • Lecture-style or reception-style seating
  • Optional pull-down screen, portable projector and limited A/V capabilities
  • Connects directly to the Grand Lobby
  • Event maximum capacity: 120 people

Indiana War Memorial – Shoup Hall

Shoup Hall is one of two mirror image meeting spaces. Measuring 24’ x 55’, Shoup Hall is perfect for receptions, meetings, reunions, parties and exhibits.

  • Lecture-style or reception-style seating
  • Connects directly to the Grand Lobby and the West Foyer
  • Optional pull-down screen, portable projector and limited A/V capabilities
  • Attached kitchen area available for limited prep work
  • Event maximum capacity: 120 people
