Stretching two city blocks, from St. Clair Street to North Street, the American Legion Mall is the home of the American Legion’s national headquarters.

World War II Memorial

A half circle of granite and limestone and the newest structure in the plaza.

Korean and Vietnam War Memorials

Two cylinder structures engraved with names of the wars, excerpts of letters and the names of Hoosiers who lost their lives in these military conflicts. Individuals’ names are placed on the stone in chronological order, based on date the service member perished or became classified as missing in action.

Cenotaph Square

Memorializes the nation’s first casualty of World War I, Corporal James B. Gresham of Company F, 16th Infantry from Evansville, Indiana. Cenotaph Square was built in 1931.

Vietnam Memorial

The Vietnam Memorial is slightly larger than the Korean Memorial to show the relationship between the number of people killed or missing in action in the two wars.

World War II Memorial

The WWII Memorial was designed to be larger than the Korean and Vietnam Memorials to reflect the size and scale of World War II.

Dedication

Governor Evan Bayh dedicated the Korean and Vietnam Memorials in 1996.
